| 29 August 2006 (Tuesday,
seond Lunar July 6) A
Village Woman with 11 Parents and 14
Children
A
humble village women named Lin Xiuzhen (林秀贞),
from Beijing’s neighbouring Hebei
Province, has recently become a popular
figure in China, for having 11 parents
and 14 children.
The
11 old men and women are not her real
parents, nor are they her relatives, but
childless elderly in the village. She
took the responsibility as their extra
financial supporter and daily
life-career, and what truly amazing is
that she has done so for a good thirty
years. When five of them passed away, she
was the one to arrange their funerals.
The
same goes with the 14 children. They are
not her offspring, but boys and girls
from neighbouring families that have no
money to pay for their school fees. So
she pays for them.
She
runs two family-based factories with her
husband, which not only allows her to
include some of her less fortunate
neighbours into her extended family, but
also 8 disabled onto her payroll list.
Her
story has now motivated some business
people to return to their villages and
see what they can do to help their
neighbours.
Being
compassionate towards the humanity begins
with being compassionate towards your
neighbours. Quite true.
